Tasnim Alkayyali, M.D.

Tasnim is originally from Amman, Jordan. She spent three years in Famagusta, North Cyprus, to complete her pre-clinical basic science courses, and another three years in Istanbul, Turkey, to finish her medical training at Marmara University Hospital. In 2020, Tasnim earned an M.D. degree with high honors from Marmara University in Turkey. She then completed a general internship year at the Jordanian Royal Medical Services in Amman, Jordan, serving patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. During her medical school, Tasnim joined a research group at the Marmara Institute of Gastroenterology, where she studied non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Her research resulted in multiple publications and presentations at regional conferences. She also published several articles after joining research training classes with the California Institute of Behavioral Neurosciences and Psychology. She enjoyed volunteering as a Turkish-Arabic medical translator, medical student tutor, university conference organizer, and conference session chairperson. Tasnim was elected as the international student representative to deliver a speech during the white ceremony at her medical school. Her hobbies and interests include learning new cultures, discovering nature, running, recording voice-overs, and crafting art with flowers.

Jihee Choi, M.D.

Following residency, he joined a private emergency medicine group in Arlington, TX. After several years in practice, he decided that he was better suited for pathology and made the decision to switch where he ultimately matched into our program. His interests include community outreach, teaching medical students and his church.

Joseph (Joey) did his undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona, where he received a BS in Biomedical Science. He received his medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Upon receipt of his medical degree he matched into a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency. Before beginning his residency, he made the decision to temporary step away from medicine to focus on his life and family. During this time he expanded his personal business of trading/selling Pokemon cards which became very successful. However, he soon realized that he missed medicine, particularly the field of forensic pathology. He ultimately joined our program as an anatomic pathology resident with an goal of completing a forensic pathology fellowship.

Mohamed (Mo) received his PhD in forensic placental pathology and his medical training at the Alexandria University Faculty of Medicine in Egypt. His hobbies include community outreach to homeless children, forensic pathology, and toxicology.

Grace did her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin where she received a BS in Biochemistry. She received both her PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology (Virology) and her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Her PhD research focused on defining the mechanistic underpinnings of their pro- and anti-viral activities of IFIT2 and IFIT3. In addition, during the pandemic she did work to characterize asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection in Wisconsin. Her hobbies include nature hiking, visiting state parks and playing the harp.

Andrew did his undergraduate studies at the Yale University where he received a BS in Molecular Biophysics and Biology. He received both his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology and his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. His PhD research focused blending systematic deep mutational scanning with mechanistic biochemistry, cross-linking mass spectrometry, and clinical genetics to define the biochemical underpinnings of a mitochondrial disease and establish a robust resource for discerning the pathogenicity of gene variants. His hobbies include league volleyball, 3D printing, woodworking, and gourmet coffee brewing.

During residency, he realized that his real passion was pathology. He therefore made the decision to switch to pathology and ultimately matched here at UT Southwestern. She received her PhD in Integrative Physiology from The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, TX. Her doctoral research interests examined the function of FosB in the nucleus of the solitary tract in chronic intermittent hypoxia induced hypertension. Her postdoctoral fellow research investigated the Parvalbumin and GABA microcircuits in the mouse superior colliculus to understand their roles in attention and decision making. Her hobbies include Chinese calligraphy, swimming, traveling and time with family.

Davinder Singh, M.D.
